When we say cold season has arrived we also say, hey there, you’ll catch a cold soon! And colds also came with nagging coughs, stuffy nose, headaches and high body temperature. And suddenly the most wonderful time of the year turns into the most awful time of the year. This Christmas I’ve caught a cold and I was a mess: couldn’t rise out of bed and couldn’t celebrate with my family because I felt very sick. And my grandma decided to prepare me a natural remedy and stop taking so many pills. The funny thing is that it worked like magic. In two days I was able to stay with them and enjoy at least the last day of Christmas. This coughing syrup, she said, is very effective in treating the whole illness. And if you want to get rid of colds, especially coughs you can try this quite effective remedy!
So, for this cough syrup we need 150 grams of sugar and half a liter of beer.
How to prepare it?
Well, put the sugar in a pot and leave it on low heat until it melts and gets like a caramel. Then, we take the pot from the heat and pour the beer slowly. Put the pot back on the stove dish and let it simmer on low heat until all the liquid has thickened, about 15-20 minutes, then it should look like honey.
Take the pot from heat and pour the mixture into a thermo-resistant glass jar, to keep the syrup there.
Adults can take one tablespoon of syrup per day and children only one teaspoon per day.
If you have a dry cough, you can add a teaspoon of dried mint in your syrup.
